How do I Get Onto Page One of Google…and Own it!

Do you want to know what’s better than your website being on page 1 of Google?

If you’re thinking the answers is being ranked number 1 on Google there’s actually something better than that.

What I’m going to share with you is how to own the first page of google.

That’s right!

Not just ranking number 1, owning the first page.

How does that sound to you?

I am not going to teach you just how to rank on page one or even rank number one for a particular keyword.

I’m going to teach you how to own the first page.

Interlink your content.

Let’s say you’re trying to rank for a term like ‘best accountant Brisbane’ or ‘best loan adviser Gold Coast’.

You can fill in the blanks here…

If you have a comprehensive in-depth article that’s about that the main topic you can create offshoot articles. We call this a “cornerstone” article.

(You can read more about what this is on a site called Yoast. The article is called “What is Cornerstone Content?”

Let me explain to you what I mean.

Follow the example on how we use this in our business and then apply it in yours.

We have a lot of topics on website development and design.

One of them is “10 Easy Steps to Designing Your Client-Oriented Website.”

This internally links, as a “cornerstone” article, into a number of other articles that break down optimizing and conversion on your wordpress website.

And we keep adding to it.

What we do is cross-link those articles together.

By doing this we increase the likelihood that both of those pages will rank on page one for the term ‘online marketing.”

In addition to this you want to have multiple pages that cover the same topic.

I just gave you an example.

Another could be on online marketing: The beginners guide.

Another one could be ‘online marketing tools’

Another one could be ‘How to get started with online marketing.

Another one could be ‘The advanced guide to online marketing.’

Are you getting the point?

Have multiple pages, not just two, but five, six or seven!

You’re going to increase your chances that you can rank on page one with more than just one listing.

Google My Business (GMB), is a listing of your business’ information, reviews, posts, and a lot more.

In most cases whilst this information may be able to be found on your website, Google My Business indexes the content you provide for consistency across Google Search and Maps.

This means that when people search for you or your services and products locally, they will have most of what they need at their fingertips

GMB though is not just a listing to find basic information about your business.

Google My Business used correctly and fully optimised and refreshed,  is a powerful tool that can increase your revenue and provide valuable insights about your customers.

It is an immensely valuable tool to use that helps you:

Control, index, and display pertinent business information

Interact with potential customers and manage your online review reputation

Curate customer photos, videos, and other user-generated content

Gather insights regarding how your customers are arriving on your site

And if that’s not enough, the ranking signals sent from GMB even play a role in your local SEO strategy.

GMB indexes the information you put in and provides a foundation for your local SEO.

To claim your listing go to https://www.google.com/business and start filling in your information as prompted.

Put in your name, address, phone number (NAP), website and business hours to start with, ensuring this is consistent across all of your online assets. Any inconsistencies will negatively impact your search ranking.

You will than be required to verify your account by submitting a code that is mailed to your business address. This step is necessary to unlock all of the GMB features.

Don’t stop there like a lot of businesses do. You’re not done!

You need to optimize it.

Claiming the account is just the start. There are so many ways you can use it.

When leveraged correctly, Google My Business can lead to increased sales and improved customer loyalty.

Do not duplicate your content!

People often trying to rank for a keyword like ‘online marketing’ will take the same content and reuse it across their website.

Google does not want to rank duplicate content from your own site.

Using content multiple times creates a terrible user experience and the Google bots will see this and it will affect your presence negatively.

Don’t duplicate your own content.

Fresh unique content is the best way to go.

Build links.

If you build links to your website you’re going to rank higher.

The key is to build links to all of your posts that you’re

Using to dominate on page one of Google for.

We use Ahrefs because they have a feature called ‘link intersect.”

You simply put in your URL along with your competitor URLs and it will bring up who links to your competitors but not linking to you.

The great thing about this is if a site is linking to three or four or five of your competitors but not you there’s an opening to get them to link to you.

When they’re open to linking to other sites within your niche.

Promote your articles on socially.

From Facebook to Twitter to LinkedIn to Instagram, promote your main articles as well as your linked articles.

What most people don’t tell you when it comes to social promotions is if you

share an article on Twitter or Facebook

Most of your fans or friends aren’t going to see it.

You don’t want to just share it once.

You want to share it four or five times over the next six months.

By doing this you’re going to continue to get more people seeing it,  shares and link to the article.

This will help with overall rankings in the long run.

No one likes outdated content.

Over time it gets outdated.

For example, if you write about tools and tips about changes to Google affecting SEO, things change.

So, you should update that content and talk about different changes.

So, once a year consider updating your main pieces of content.

This will help them all rank higher.

If you follow these tips you’re much more likely to not just rank number one on google. You’re more likely to take over the first-page with multiple listings for the keyword.

If you want to go to the extreme take all these tactics and do this with multiple sites.

By doing this you’re going to even increase your chances of dominating the first page.
