I was talking with a long standing client I am coaching last week and he has been getting sucked into Facebook during his working day.
Man…I hear this story so often.
It’s like Facebook opens up and people get sucked into the Zuckerberg vortex.
Honestly, I spend very little time on Facebook. I only log in when doing work on client’s accounts or for business purposes.
I was talking to him again yesterday and he has cut his usage down to “business only” and here’s what he’s found in just a week:
He’s more productive, and no longer get stuck watching a video on Facebook before realising and thinking “Man, what the heck are you doing?”
He’s happier in that he’s no longer comparing himself to his competitors. Sadly, this is a trait of human nature and hard to avoid on Facebook.
He’s cutting through more lead follow up and generating more sales. That may be just randomness, but spending time on more focused, revenue generating activities certainly doesn’t hurt.
Personally, I haven’t looked at the Newsfeed for a long time now.
In fact, even though we run large campaigns on Facebook and am in a high level private group of Facebook ads experts, I don’t spend time on the newsfeed.
The time I spend on Facebook is extremely focused and productive.
I look at my notifications, check my messages and then do the work I need to do and log out.
Don’t get me wrong. Facebook is a very powerful marketing vehicle and we get some great results on Facebook, for ourselves and our clients. It’s no doubt one of THE most powerful for many businesses.
But you want to use it, don’t let it use you.
